Sir,
Have great respect for your efforts & hard work on this complex issue...often ignored in the West. As a Russian Language + History major (UBuffalo 71), may I suggest one thing...?
Some Brits-others have written about the Polish/Pilsudski vs. Russian/Lenin War of 1920 as critical to retarding the progress of Communism into war weary Western Europe ("Miracle on the Vistula/Warsaw). Perhaps you could include that?
Your photos, maps and context are excellent otherwise.
Thank you for your scholarship!

The map of Armenia and Azerbaijan is incorrect. Synik and Nakhichevan were not a subject of discussions those times, although throughout all the 3 years of independence of South Caucasus republics battles and riots were taking place there, but they were recognized as part of Armenia. Karabakh as Azerbaijan declared was part of their territory, although the full Armenian population was fighting against regular Azeri Turkish troops, and several Karabakh national councils were announcing its protest aganinst Azeri aggression. This causes mass slaughters of Armenian population in 1918 and 1920, when about 40,000 Armenians were massacred. And moreover Karabakh was recognized by Leage of Nations as part of Armenia and moreover Leage of Nations did not recognize Azerbaijan as an independent republic at all, while Armenia with its borders from Karabakh to Van/Bitlis/Trapisond/Erzrum was recognized.
