What would be the results of present chaos in Iraq?

April 19, 2007

It is being seen that if there does not end up any reconciliation in Iraq and formation of a stable government does not happen, then there would be repercussions of this situations not just in that state but also all over the Middle East.

Iraq not becoming stable would boost sectarian violence in almost all states of Middle East. The present situation in Iraq should not be debated over whether the war is correct or wrong, the situation should be looked at in a broader perspective.

The neighboring countries should try and restore peace in Iraq if they wish for the same for their countries. Countries bordering with Iraq like Iran and Syria should especially involve themselves in this effort.

There are also feeling being echoed by some prominent American leaders that the Iraqis should be made to involve themselves in the day to day political affairs of their country. There have been several visit by prominent members of the military and American government to Iraq in recent times.

There has also been proof found in Iraq that the Iranians were supporting Taliban fighters, when there were weapons made in Iran were found by the US troops. Therefore, though amount of involvement of Iranians is not known in this war is not known, it is certain that Iran is helping Iraqi insurgents by providing them with weapons.

This situation has America worried since there are some 42 countries, all over the world trying to restore peace in Iraq by working at different levels. And this effort is being made redundant by Iran.

This is the reason why the USA has decided to watch Iraq closely, since it is aware of its nuclear program and the plans that it has for Iraq. Iran’s ambitions to dominate the Middle East are also not lesser known.

America is also considering taking help from Egypt for the purpose of exerting control of Iran and its policies. It is being felt that considering Egypt’s geographical, economic and demographical position, there cannot be any alternative other than involving it for bringing stability in Iraq.

Peace can be restored and the country would gain stability like the way it had earlier, however, the elements provoking the Iraqi people should be stopped and the Iraqis require to be educated that shunning violence would be the best bid to remove foreigners from their country and getting their country back to normalcy.

Once the lives of Iraqis returned to normalcy, it would not take much time for peace and stability return to the region. However, failure of US Troops to bring stability to the region would mean that the entire region would be in danger of being exposed to sectarian violence.

It is also required that the United States troops do not give on the efforts of encouraging peace process and to involve more and move Iraqis in day to day functioning of Iraq, this would lead in increase of confidence among Iraqis and the peace would return faster. Also what is required is that they should be educated about the shortcomings of violence.
